The Children’s Aid Society of the United Counties of SDG, Social Development Council of Cornwall and area, United Way Centraide SDG, Cornwall Police Service, Cornwall Community Hospital, Equipe Psycho-Sociale and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit have come together to develop a Community Conversation Table fostering discussions to begin the dialogue of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion locally and to start the work to move forward.
33 local organizations have signed on to be part of the newly created Coalition Communautaire IDEA Community Coalition to put equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-oppression, Truth and Reconciliation at the forefront of their work. This collaboration aims to spark dialogue, foster discussions, and address systemic barriers to move this work forward.
The following 5 pillars were selected based on national and global evidence and experiences for achieving substantial change at systemic, behavioral, and cultural levels:
Community Equity. Community Equity is the strong connection that an organization enjoys with its community. Collaborating with community organizations and partners to actively participate and stand in solidarity in initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our community.
Education and Training. We understand that fostering EDI requires continuous learning and development. We will establish a joint working group that will find and implement training opportunities and share resources in a collaborative effort towards EDI, creating a workplace that values diversity and promotes an inclusive environment.
Engagement and Belonging. We will ensure fair and inclusive recruitment, retention, mentorship, performance, and talent management.
Policies and Programs. Regularly reviewing and assessing our policies and practices to identify and eliminate any oppressive barriers.
Data Analysis & Reporting. track and assess the experiences of our people and those we serve related to EDI, identify opportunities to better reflect our community, and report on our progress.
