The IDEA Community Coalition is a meeting space for organizations and individuals from Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Cornwall, and Akwesasne.

Through conversation on equity, diversity, and inclusion, we advance Truth and Reconciliation’s calls to action (TRC) by focusing on anti-oppression, anti-racism and cultural safety.

It is a collective movement towards a just and inclusive future.

A united community where all individuals thrive in a culture of respect, belonging, and opportunity as systemic barriers are dismantled, and diverse voices are empowered.

Participating organizations and individuals have endorsed a letter of commitment that:

  • Emphasizes the critical role of leadership in supporting a community that values feedback and embraces opportunities from the challenges of anti-oppression work.
  • Outlines core values, strategic pillars, and the collaborative effort needed to achieve equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-oppression.
  • Reflects a shared mission of encouraging active partnerships to implement and uphold these principles.

The strategy is based on five key pillars:

  1. Community Equity: Collaborate with local organizations to champion diversity, equity, inclusion, TRC and anti-oppression.
  2. Education and Training: Through a process of continuous development, find and deliver inclusion, diversity, equity, TRC and anti-oppression training.
  3. Engagement and Belonging: Promote equitable and inclusive recruitment, retention, mentorship, and performance management.
  4. Policies and Programs: Review and assess members’ policies and practices to align with equity, diversity, inclusivity, TRC and cultural safety.
  5. Data Analysis & Reporting: Track and evaluate inclusion, diversity, equity, TRC and anti-oppression metrics, to ensure accountability.

Your engagement will help dismantle systemic barriers and build a community where every voice is valued.
