Job Description: Executive Director

Job Title:  Executive DirectorType of Position: Full-time
Reports to: Board of DirectorsLength of Contract: 12-month (with possibility of extension)

Position Overview

The Executive Director will work alongside a team who values building great relationships with internal and external interest holders.

This position reports directly to a Board of Directors and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization as well as serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization.

A. Strategic and Organizational Leadership

  • Support the Board in developing and implementing the strategic plan.
  • Translate Board-approved strategies into actionable annual work plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide leadership that promotes the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Identify emerging community needs, trends, and partnership opportunities.

B. Governance Support

  • Work closely with the Board Chair to ensure effective governance practices.
  • Prepare reports, background materials, policies and recommendations for Board and committee meetings.
  • Ensure the Board is informed of significant operational, legal, or reputational risks.
  • Participate in Board and committee meetings as required.

D. Financial Management

  • Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts for Board approval.
  • Manage operations within approved budgets and ensure sound financial controls.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial and program reports.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA charitable reporting requirements and Ontario nonprofit legislation.

E. Human Resources Management

  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and safe workplace in compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Oversee performance management and professional development.
  • Implement human resources policies and maintain confidential personnel records.

F. Interest Holder Relations and Advocacy

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing it to media, partners, funders, and the public.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, community partners, government agencies, and networks.
  • Ensure the organization’s communications are consistent, transparent, and mission aligned.

G. Risk Management and Compliance

  • Identify and manage organizational risks (financial, legal, operational, reputational).
  • Ensure all contracts, insurance, and legal obligations are current and compliant.
  • Maintain policies and procedures that promote integrity and accountability.
  • Support the Board in ensuring compliance with the CRA, ONCA, and relevant privacy and accessibility laws.

An ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • A post-secondary degree/diploma in business management, marketing and communications or equivalent workplace experience will be considered
  • Previous management experience, including leading a team and managing employees
  • Proven success in fundraising and networking; including knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the not-for-profit sector
  • A demonstrated ability to connect with people and foster strong relationships
  • Excellent communication, public relations, and strong presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and accounting software
  • Previous not-for-profit/board of directors’ experience would be considered an asset
  • A valid driver’s permit and access to a reliable automobile
  • Bilingual French/English would be considered an asset
  • Be able to provide a valid and negative Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check if requested to do so
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include some evenings and weekends and are prepared to work extra hours, as required.

This is an in-person position based at 55 Water St. W, Cornwall, Ontario. The successful candidate is expected to work on-site during regular working hours, with occasional flexibility for off-site meetings, events, and community activities.

Compensation

  • Salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000
