Why did you join the United Way Board of Directors?

Growing up in Cornwall, I watched my Mom give back to our community immensely so I grew up ensuring that I would do the same. I have been part of many planning committees and events in the area and I know how important it is to help others. The United Way Board of Directors has given me the opportunity to have such a big impact, which is one of the main reasons I joined. Knowing that the United Way helps so many agencies and people, creates the exact ripple effect of positivity that I think this world needs more of.

What specific skills, perspective or lived experience do you bring to the United Way Board of Directors?

My background in Marketing and Event Planning is something I felt would be a great addition to the board. I have been able to lend my expertise to the Wine Gala as well as Over the Edge and provide support with ideas to ensure the community continues to understand the impact we make. My co-founder and I have made DEI a pillar of our business (having won the Best Ottawa Business Award for Leaders in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in 2021) and that alignment is something I feel is a strong perspective I bring to the Board of Directors.

Who is someone that has inspired you to get involved with the United Way?

While I was working as the host for Cornwall’s YourTV talkshow, Community Matters, I had the chance to meet so many wonderful community leaders. I am proud to have been Juliette (our ED’s) first media interview when she started her position and the light she brought into the room that day was inspiring. As I got to know her better over the years, I saw first-hand the impact she was having on the United Way and it made me want to be part of it all too. Juliette is an incredible leader and watching her (and the United Way team) make lasting changes in our community is something that truly inspired me to get involved.
