SUMMARY:Go Over The Edge for United Way Centraide SDG
DESCRIPTION:Actionner pour lire en Français \nWe’re taking building community to new heights\nDo you have what it takes to go Over The Edge for United Way Centraide SDG?\nWe’re launching our 2023 Campaign with a brand new thrilling fundraiser— raise $1000 to rappel off of one of Cornwall’s tallest buildings\, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation building on Pitt & Second. \nEnjoy an amazing view of downtown Cornwall from the rooftop before rappelling 9 stories down the side of the building in this experience of a lifetime. Does this sound crazy? We hope so! It’s our aim to bring some fun and excitement to our annual campaign launch while raising money for our communities that have been deeply impacted by the cost-of-living crisis. \nTo make this happen (and to ensure the safety of our participants)\, we have partnered with Over The Edge\, an adventure experience company\, that has run over 1300 events across the globe for nonprofits just like this one. Safety is their number one priority. They ensure that the event follows the most stringent safety protocols while also providing training and support to all participants. This means that no experience is required to participate. \nYou\, your company\, and your friends will have the chance of a lifetime to be part of something truly thrilling and courageous. \n \n\nIf rappelling down a building isn’t your thing\, that’s okay! There are other ways to support our Campaign launch.\n\n \n \n\nWe’re looking for sponsors!\nIf your company or workplace is interested in sponsoring our Over The Edge event\, there are a few available packages to give your company visibility with a bit of adventure! Contact Stephanie Lapointe (stephanie@unitedwaysdg.com) if you’re interested. \n \n\n\n\nThank you to our 2023 Partners and Sponsors\n \n\n

SUMMARY:2022 Tampon Tuesday Product Drive
DESCRIPTION:Tampon Tuesday donation drive in Stormont\, Dundas\, and Glengarry\n\nDonations will be collected from March 7 – 22\, 2022 at the United Way/Centraide SDG office \nWe’re bringing back Tampon Tuesday to our region! Starting the week International Women’s Day\, this two-week campaign\, in partnership with Cornwall & District Labour Council\,  is an opportunity to raise awareness about period poverty. It’s important that the most vulnerable in our region have access to menstrual hygiene products as they are often the most requested from shelters and foodbanks but the least donated. \nIn 2021\, we ran our very first Tampon Tuesday product drive in this region\, achieving an impressive 300+ packages of products donated. They were distributed to five local agencies: Agape\, Naomi House\, Akwesasne Healing Centre\, Baldwin House\, and Sexual Assault Support Services Stormont\, Dundas\, Glengarry & Akwesasne. This year\, with your help\, we want to double the amount of product donated to help even more people in our communities. \nStarting March 7 and running until March 22\, 2022\, community members are encouraged to donate pads\, tampons\, liners\, cups\, and other menstrual hygiene products to help fill this gap in our region.  \n\n4 Ways to Support\nCollection Sites: Drop off menstrual hygiene products at the locations listed below. SUMMARY:US AND THEM Film Screening & Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to be part of an exclusive screening of US AND THEM at The Port Theatre on Friday\, October 15 at 7PM. A powerful documentary on the realities of homelessness and addiction\, this film will spark many important and difficult discussions. Sponsored by Suicide Prevention Coalition of Champlain East\, this one-night event includes a post-film panel discussion to talk about how these issues relate to our own community. \nSponsored by \n \n                                                                                  \n\nABOUT US AND THEM\n \nFilmed over a decade\, US AND THEM is a deeply visceral film about transformation through human connection. This documentary is composed of striking portraits of four extraordinary homeless individuals as they struggle with addictions. The film is directed by Krista Loughton and Jennifer Abbott (THE CORPORATION). The story follows Loughton’s ten-year journey exploring the worlds of Dawnellda\, Stan\, Eddie and Karen\, who she attempts to help. In the end\, it is Loughton herself who is changed. Punctuated with First Nations wisdom\, and Dr. Gabor Maté’s insight into the root causes of addiction\, the film shows there is no difference between US AND THEM. \n“Us and Them puts a human face on homelessness moving it from the political and economic realms into the human realm. This is done in a direct and personal way that the viewer can identify with.”  –Dr. Gabor Maté \n“By putting real human faces to these issues this film provides an invaluable service\, bringing a level of acceptance and understanding to a subject that has been hidden in silence and wrapped in stigma for too long.” -Victoria Mayor\, Lisa Helps \nTo bring attention to the issues of homelessness and addiction\, US AND THEM has been touring North American communities\, rural and urban\, from coast-to-coast. So far\, at every showing\, the audience response is the same — they are deeply moved. People leave the theatre and typically never look at someone living on our streets the same way again. \n  \nAN IMPORTANT POST-FILM PANEL DISCUSSION\nHomelessness and affordable housing are serious concerns in our region. The rising cost of rent and unaffordable for-sale prices in Cornwall\, Akwesasne and the Counties have detrimentally impacted many of our most vulnerable and marginalized communities. Homelessness is not something we see here in the same way as larger cities\, but it exists right under our noses. Couch surfing\, living in older motels\, squatting and even setting up camp in Tent City are all realities for many living in SDGCA. The stories depicted in the film are lived experiences here\, and we need to be talking about it. \nModerated by United Way Centraide SDG Executive Director\, Juliette Labossière\, the post-film panel will include representatives from  Akwesasne Healing Centre\, Centre 105\, Roy McMurtry Legal Clinic Legal Clinic\, House of Lazarus\, and the Social & Housing Services Department with City of Cornwall who will all share their knowledge of this crisis. \n\nDONATE WHAT YOU CAN TO WATCH\nWe invite everyone to attend this special event. You can reserve your spot by clicking the button below or show up at the door. We only ask that you donate what you can as the cost of your ticket. Donations will benefit both the United Way Centraide SDG and the Akwesasne Healing Centre\, and all money raised from this screening will be split 50/50 between both organizations. \nDon’t miss this one-night event that will tackle some very real and difficult issues that we not only need to be aware of\, but also talking about. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:2021 Campaign Launch in Lamoureux Park
DESCRIPTION:Be part of our 2021 Campaign Kickoff \nShow your local love by launching our 2021 Campaign with us on Thursday\, September 9! This marks the beginning of our four month blitz to raise awareness for local issues and fundraise for local agencies and programs that are tackling them in our region. \n2020 and 2021 have been heavy years. The issues that we’ve been talking about for nearly 80 years were made #UNIGNORABLE by the health\, social and economic impact of the pandemic. We all have a story related COVID-19 whether it’s our own job loss/reduced hours\, health\, mental health\, the strain of many province-wide shutdowns in a short time\, or we watched our friends\, family and community experience these hardships. \nThere is a long road ahead of us. We have a lot of time to talk about and highlight those stories to show how the pandemic has not been felt equally in this community. Tackling the increased poverty related issues and extra demand for vital services due to the pandemic can feel overwhelming. \nWhile we’re feeling the weight of these issues\, we also know that sometimes we need to take a break on these difficult and uncertain days to find the strength to be hopeful. To find humour and lightness from within that helps us keep fighting and advocating for our region. \nBreakfast with a helping of the Questionable Comedians\nWhat better way to stir hope than by adding pinch of laughter? Along with eggs\, sausage\, pastries\, and coffee\, we are serving a heaping spoonful of the Questionable Comedians! Laugh with Jamie Carr\, Mike Baird and Simon Mclinden while learning about the United Way Centraide SDG’s vision for this year. \nWe are not charging for the show but we’re asking people to donate what they can at the event or when they register to enjoy the breakfast. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \n  \nDish with our local agencies\nMeet a few of our local agencies who will have a table set up to discuss the vital programs they are running in our region and how its impacting the lives of our most vulnerable communities. Poverty reduction is a community effort that takes many forms. Learn how these agencies are changing lives! \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThe morning’s ingredients \n8:00 am    Check in\, enjoy breakfast and mingle with our team and local agencies\n8:30 am    Welcome from Senator Clement\, Executive Director Juliette Labossière & Campaign Chair Nicholas Seguin\n8:45 am    Comedy Show from Questionable Comedians\n9:15 am    Closing from Senator Clement\n9:20 am    Mingle with our team and local agencies \nBYOC\nBring your own chair or blanket to enjoy the show! There are benches in the park\, but they will be first come first serve. The United Way Centraide SDG will not be providing extra seating for this event. \nThis is a rain or shine event\, so please dress according to the weather. \nHealth and Safety\nYour health and safety is our first priority. This event will follow EOHU COVID-19 guidelines\, including screening upon arrival and mandatory mask wearing when social distancing isn’t possible. We will provide masks if you forget yours!  Hand sanitizer will be readily available when checking in and when picking up food or coffee. \n
