Show your local love by launching our 2021 Campaign with us on Thursday, September 9! This marks the beginning of our four month blitz to raise awareness for local issues and fundraise for local agencies and programs that are tackling them in our region.
2020 and 2021 have been heavy years. The issues that we’ve been talking about for nearly 80 years were made #UNIGNORABLE by the health, social and economic impact of the pandemic. We all have a story related COVID-19 whether it’s our own job loss/reduced hours, health, mental health, the strain of many province-wide shutdowns in a short time, or we watched our friends, family and community experience these hardships.
There is a long road ahead of us. We have a lot of time to talk about and highlight those stories to show how the pandemic has not been felt equally in this community. Tackling the increased poverty related issues and extra demand for vital services due to the pandemic can feel overwhelming.
While we’re feeling the weight of these issues, we also know that sometimes we need to take a break on these difficult and uncertain days to find the strength to be hopeful. To find humour and lightness from within that helps us keep fighting and advocating for our region.
What better way to stir hope than by adding pinch of laughter? Along with eggs, sausage, pastries, and coffee, we are serving a heaping spoonful of the Questionable Comedians! Laugh with Jamie Carr, Mike Baird and Simon Mclinden while learning about the United Way Centraide SDG’s vision for this year.
We are not charging for the show but we’re asking people to donate what they can at the event or when they register to enjoy the breakfast.
Meet a few of our local agencies who will have a table set up to discuss the vital programs they are running in our region and how its impacting the lives of our most vulnerable communities. Poverty reduction is a community effort that takes many forms. Learn how these agencies are changing lives!
